Yet this was balanced when issues of engineering and constructability had to be reconciled to design ambitions in support classes.

There was freedom to explore during field trips and experiment in the Digital Fabrication Lab, wood, and metal shops. I’ve developed a strong design process, aesthetic sensibility, and amassed numerous tools to effectively communicate design ideas. These skills are coupled with my experience of providing refined detailing with materials and executing a design as envisioned.Ĭal Poly San Luis Obispo gave me a great education. These include rendering and visualization, computational design, building analysis, and rapid prototyping. I am an expert in BIM (Revit) project development and a wide range of other tools that are necessary for a successful project. These homes employ strategies such as airtight envelopes, continuous exterior insulation, drain water heat recovery, grey water, PV solar arrays amongst many others. I recently completed two ZNE residences where I completed the construction documents and managed the permitting and construction administration phases. I also have experience creating highly sustainable and energy-efficient buildings through work on LEED, Passive House and Zero Net Energy projects. Also, with the large majority of work with SFUSD being on existing campuses, responding to the school communities’ needs, leading up to and during construction, was always critical to a project’s success. Many of my projects have required very close coordination with consultants to resolve challenging existing conditions or to provide the highly sustainable systems the clients were requiring. For all projects with SFUSD I was responsible for all phases from design and construction documents, through to closeout and certification. Most recently, I served as the Project Manager during construction on the ground up campus for Yuba River Charter School in Grass Valley and have completed many additional DSA projects with SFUSD. I have extensive experience managing projects through the Division of the State Architect (DSA) process for project approval, construction oversight, and project closeout & certification. In 8 years with 450 Architects my work has been dedicated to ground-up schools for private clients, K-12 modernizations & green schoolyards for San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD), and highly sustainable ground up residences. Dsa construction oversight process professional#
Working at such a small firm, I was able to continue to develop what I learned in college but also quickly able to round out my education with professional real-world work and gained skills in managing projects both small and large and from start to finish. Professionally I've been able to work on sensible designs with an emphasis on cutting edge sustainability. But also there were many exciting successes that supplied the motivation to try it again but with a better approach or improved method. We were encouraged, given the freedom, and the access to tools to actually try out and test our ideas.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo was a big driver of that curious and explorative mindset.

I am always curious to learn from other fields or the newest developments in technology and science. I truly relish in a challenging problem to solve and am glad to be pushed to research and expand my knowledge in order to do so. Design or technical innovation are great on their own, but together, in harmony in the right way, are what can really make a project sing and deliver for the client. In my work, I seek to find a balance between the aesthetic design and solving the technical challenges that come up.
